Me |
Hello classmates!
For starters, my name is Allison Starr. I was born and raised here in San Diego. I am 21 years old and today was my first day as an Aztec. Being a transfer student from Palomar Community College, I knew I had a big day ahead of me. This morning I was extremely anxious about the unknowns of being a student at a University. Walking onto campus I tried to keep my composure. It was strange not to see one familiar face. Acting like I knew where I was going and let me tell you I had zero idea, I kept looking. As luck would have it, I found all my classes. As the day went on, my nerves melted away (maybe because it was so dang hot). I felt as if SDSU was where I was supposed to be the whole time. I finally made it!
If you have any advice for me, leave me a comment! If you would like to share your first day ever at SDSU and how you felt, I would love to read them.
My dogs Abbie and Tucker |
I am a Social Science (Single Subject) Major. My end goal is to become a high school history teacher. I fell in love with United States History in high school. It caught my interest right away. For most students I talk to, they think history is as dull as a broken pencil. I really think it all depends on how you look at it. History to me is like a story told by your grandfather. One of those stories that has something for everyone. Drama, love, art, war, guns, cannons and the list is endless. Just like anything in life, it is as good as you make it. For you history lovers keep on loving! As for the haters, give it a second shot and try to look at it from a different angle. It is truly amazing!
Some other things you should know about me is one, my love for my two dogs, Abbie and Tucker. Those two are always there to greet me as soon as I walk through the door. I adore them greatly. They love to be outside and sunbathe. Their favorite hobby is to bark wildly at cats.
Secondly, I have a job working at Delight of France Bakery in Escondido. Feel free to stop by and visit. The baked goods are to die for and the food is wonderful. I love my job! It truly is such a blessing. My co workers are fun and the pay is great. Win win!
Third, here are some random facts about me. I love making friends and meeting new people. I am very friendly. I love hiking, reading (last book I read was Me Before You...so wonderful), and taking pictures. I would not call myself a photographer by any means but I enjoy taking them. My favorite color is purple. It works out perfectly because my birth stone is amethyst. You can find me most days wearing a white shirt and jeans. I have naturally curly hair. Sometimes you will see me with my natural curls and sometimes I will straighten it. All depends on how I feel. I find comfort in organization. I am constantly making to do lists to organize my thoughts. If I was not an organized person, I think I would pretty much go insane.
Nyle <3 |
Last but not least, my family. As much a they drive me crazy, I love them dearly. I have two older siblings who have grown to be my best friends, as well as my parents. Growing up and even to this day, my parents have always been there for me. I know their love and guidance played a huge role into shaping who I am. I will be forever grateful. Shout out to my parents, Robert and Jackie, love you.
Aside from my family, Nyle is my best best friend and my loving boyfriend. He is such a hard and dedicated worker, he motivates me to be the best version of myself. I know that sounds like total cheese but it is absolutely true. Maybe you will see him around campus. He is an Aztec too.
This is the first time I have ever written a blog before so thank you for reading it this far. I look forward to seeing what this class and semester has in store for all of us.
Xoxo,
Allison Starr
Hey Allison!
ReplyDeleteFor starters, welcome to SDSU!!!! I understand how stressful being on campus for the first time can be, but you will feel right at home instantly. When I was a freshman, I spent over an hour lost searching for my first class that I gave up and went back home, good times. My best advice is to stay involved in everything!!!!! The more involved you are, the better the experience.
As far as your major, I absolutely envy you for being a social science major, I am THE worst at history, it took me 3 tries to pass with a C in american history back in high school. I don't know how you do it.
I really enjoyed getting to know you through this blog! You seem like a really cool, outgoing person! I hope you enjoy your time at state, it goes by insanely fast.

Hi Allison! My name is Katie and we seem to have a lot in common! I am also from San Diego. I was born and raised in La Mesa and went to Helix High School.. You said you work in Escondido so I'm assuming you're from up there?! Also, Im also interested in pursuing a single subject teaching career too and my boyfriend actually is in the graduate program at USD for History single subject and started student teaching today!
ReplyDeleteAlso welcome to SDSU! I know its super overwhelming, I was so overwhelmed by the campus and amount of people walking around. You should definitely get involved with anything you can because it definitely does make the experience here better. I hope you enjoy your first few weeks here at SDSU!

Also I forgot to include that my puppy greeting me after a long day of class or work is also one of my favorite parts of my day too!
DeleteHi Allison, welcome to State! I hope you enjoy it here as much as I do. I wanted to tell you that I agree with what you said about history being like a story told by your grandfather. Except for me it was my grandmother telling the stories. She witnessed World War 2 with her very own eyes in the small town she lived in in the Philippines when the Japanese occupied the Philippines in the early 1940's. I used to always ask her for stories about those times, so knowing and learning about history is something that I'm fascinated about. I think it's really cool that you're passionate about history since I don't know many people that are. I hope you'll keep learning more about the past and that you'll always find a different way to fall in love with the subject all over again.
ReplyDeleteOn a friendlier note, I think your dogs are absolutely adorable. I've always wanted a dog but my mom is terrified of them and my dad just don't like them so I was never able to keep one as a pet. Hopefully when I move out I'll be able to get a dog that is as cute as Abbie and Tucker.
It was refreshing to read your introductory post, and I'm looking forward to reading more of your blog posts!

Your background on this blog is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteBtw, welcome to SDSU. It really is a great school, and you'll get used to the size pretty quickly. EF
